Mexico: 650 kg of Cocaine Seized in Michoacán

During a maritime operation carried out off the coast of Lázaro Cárdenas, in the state of Michoacán, federal authorities seized a vessel transporting approximately 650 kilos of alleged cocaine, and also arrested six people involved in the incident.

Joint operation at sea The seizure was carried out by elements of the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), in coordination with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the Attorney General's Office (FGR), during a maritime surveillance operation that took place about 61 nautical miles (approximately 113 km) southwest of the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas.

According to the official report, the intercepted vessel was a small boat equipped with three outboard engines, in which 14 bales with brick-type packages containing a white powder with characteristics consistent with cocaine hydrochloride were found, with an approximate weight of 650 kilos.

According to official data, this seizure prevented more than 1.3 million doses of the drug from reaching the streets, which represents a significant blow to the distribution routes of organized crime.

The Secretariat of the Navy itself highlighted that this seizure also represents an approximate economic damage of 150 million pesos to the criminal groups involved in the trafficking of narcotics.

International support and collaboration In addition to the participation of national institutions, the operation relied on intelligence provided by the U.S. Northern Command and the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF SOUTH), demonstrating international collaboration in the fight against maritime drug trafficking.

This seizure adds to a series of confiscations carried out in Mexican waters as part of actions to weaken the operations of criminal organizations dedicated to drug trafficking.

So far this year, multiple seizures of narcotics have been reported in the Mexican Pacific, which have prevented large quantities of cocaine and other substances from reaching the national and international markets.

350 liters of fuel were also seized on the same vessel.

Six detainees and possible impact on organized crime The six people crewing the vessel were detained by the authorities as part of the operation.
